Changing Smiles, Improving Lives

So much of an individual’s personality is communicated through his or her smile, but perhaps nothing so strongly as self-confidence. By improving smiles, we are able to strengthen patients’ images of themselves, and in turn, the way they are perceived by others. Someone who walks into a room with her head held high and a smile on her face, for example, portrays a much more positive image than one who steps in quietly, eyes to the ground, and her lips closed to prevent even the smallest of smiles.

“Smile design” is a term gaining recognition in today’s look-conscious society. While the term may invoke a range of differing images, smile design in and of itself simply refers to the process of changing a patient’s smile through the advanced cosmetic options available to modern dentistry. In application, however, smile design becomes an art that takes into account all aspects of a patient’s smile—including everything from lip contours and gum height to facial dimension and tooth proportions. In short, smile design enables us to create beautiful smiles and, in many cases, change lives.
