In our practice, it’s not only the
doctor who remains well-schooled in the art and science of dentistry:
Dr. Spaniel and her entire dental team travel around the country
to take part in courses addressing the most up-to-date techniques
and materials of modern dentistry. In addition, every year the team
travels to the University of North Carolina—Dr. Spaniel’s alma mater—for
a specialized continuing education curriculum.

At each appointment, we offer to schedule
the next re-care visit. If you choose not to schedule at that time,
we will send you a reminder card. Periodically, our appointment system
checks for patients who are overdue for their next visit, and we
send overdue reminder cards. Of course, you should always call us
if you are having any pain, swelling or other concern with your mouth.

We recommend age 2, unless the parents
have a particular concern at an earlier age. The first visit is primarily
a “fun visit,” during which we strive to teach the child that this
is a fun place to come. We never push a child into a treatment if
he or she is feeling uncomfortable, and parents are always welcome
to sit with the child.

Although it is ultimately the patient’s responsibility to pay for
treatment, we will happily work out payment plans on an individual
basis.

You simply need to call our office.
However, we do request that you give us the courtesy of 24 hours
notice.

Call the office, and you will be referred
to our emergency numbers. There is always a doctor on call who is
available to treat emergencies.
Call our office immediately so we
can assist you; if it’s after hours, you will be referred to the
on-call doctor. Be sure to save the temporary—a “zip lock” bag works
well—and try not to chew on the affected side of your mouth.

We accept VISA®, MasterCard® and CareCredit® patient
financing.

We are more than happy to answer any

We take great care to ensure our patients
remain safe, which is why we use the most advanced sterilization
system available. In addition, we have state-of-the-art waterline
systems, and we use bottled water to prevent waterline contamination.
Please feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions you
may have about patient safety.

Quite simply, we have one of the most
technologically advanced practices in the region. And because we
are able to detect cavities at their earliest stages, we can offer
you more conservative treatment options than are traditionally provided.
Please refer back to the Patient Comfort & Technology section
of this site to review the many options you’ll be offered at our
practice. You’ll see we go to great lengths to ensure both your physical
and emotional comfort.

Many of our patients find the video
glasses and movies we offer to be an excellent distraction. If
that’s
not enough, however, we can prescribe oral medication on an individual
basis.

Be sure you are having your teeth
professionally cleaned on an appropriate schedule, and check your
diet to see if it contains an excessive amount of foods that might
be causing the problem. You also may need to visit your physician
to rule out any digestive problems. Additionally, we offer products
from the Breath
Rx® comprehensive breath management system, which
is very effective.

We have an array of conservative options
available for you. Depending on your situation, we may refer you
to an orthodontist for treatment with the Invisalign® system,
or we may be able to offer a combination of crowns and veneers.
Of course, the doctor must evaluate each case individually to determine
the most appropriate mode of treatment.
